About Me

I’m Dre, a 30yo artist and medical student living in Denver, CO. I grew up in Golden, CO and love the mountain west and southwest, but also have a passion for visiting new places. I went to an international high school in Wales, graduated with a degree in computer science and slavic studies from Brown, and taught math in Guinea through the Peace Corps.

Currently, I’m in my final year of medical school at the University of Colorado, applying for general surgery residency. My dreams are to combine my interests in art, problem solving, and medicine to positively affect my community.

In my free time, I knit like a fiend and also partake in many other art forms! Right now I’m getting into sewing but my artistic background is primarily in portraiture using pencil/pen or acrylic paint.

Besides art, I love to be outdoors, read (especially fantasy and sci-fi), spend time with my dad (and brother when he visits from Vancouver), arrange flowers, and plan themed parties with friends. I also have two tiny cats who I adore, Penny and Lalo.

The trouble is that we have a bad habit, encouraged by pedants and sophisticates, of considering happiness as something rather stupid. Only pain is intellectual, only evil interesting. This is the treason of the artist: a refusal to admit the banality of evil and the terrible boredom of pain…but to praise despair is to condemn delight, to embrace violence is to lose hold of everything else.
